This photograph "Borderland", is hanging at the Dana Gallery in Missoula, Montana as part of the "Icons of the West 2011" show from June 16 - September 30 2011. It was taken in 2006 when Missoulian reporter Vince Devlin and I traveled the length of Highway 93 as part of the "Two Lanes Into Montana" series where staff photographers teamed up with Devlin to document life along 6 two-lane highways in the state from border-to-border.

In the spring of 2011, Tina Carter finds herself homeless in Missoula but thanks to the local YWCA emergency housing program has a temporary place to stay in a local motel. She has 50-days to find a home for herself and three children. The project was published in an front page + feature section package with multimedia components online. NO PLACE LIKE HOME

This documentary project began during the winter of 2002 in the town of Härnösand, Sweden. The small town is home to several group homes for refugee minors who come to Sweden without parents or guardians. I started photographing daily life at the group home seven years ago, but finally returned in February of this year to dedicate a three week period to shooting the project. In the following audio slideshow, youth from Afghanistan, Eritrea and Somalia talk about their experiences. A one-night showing of the work, including this slideshow, was held in March 2009 in Missoula, Montana.
